I visited Trulieve late on a Friday afternoon. I was lucky to find this strain available, as it is one of their most popular and the first to sell out. Sour Diesel seems to have a cult following, and I can definitely see why. I purchased on 1/8th, or 3.5g, for $33.
Sour Diesel is likely a descendant of Chemdog 91 & Super Skunk. It is a sativa-dominant strain that is named for its pungent, diesel-like aroma. This is something I definitely noticed when consuming and photographing this strain. It caught my nose more than any other! This is a result of the terpenes, or aromatic oils, that are present.
The main terpenes found in Sour Diesel are Linalool, Limonene, and Pinene. Linalool is anti-microbial, and has sedative & anti-epileptic properties. It can reduce anxiety, and lower depression-like behaviors. Limonene is commonly associated with fruity, citrus aromas. It can elevate your mood, may help relieve heartburn, and has antifungal properties. Pinene is associated with alertness and focus. It is also reported to help with inflammation, memory problems, asthma, bacteria, viruses and tumors.
Now on to the cannabinoids. This particular batch of Sour Diesel was 23.7% THC, .7% CBG & 0% CBD, CBN & THCV. CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid I haven’t mentioned before. It was found to be effective in treating or managing IBS, glaucoma, Huntington’s Disease, colon cancer, and bladder dysfunction (you can read more about CBG here.) I really appreciate that Trulieve lists which cannabinoids are/could be present in the strain, beyond just THC and CBD. There are health benefits to them all. Cannabinoids also provide some insight on how a particular strain might make you feel.
Since Sour Diesel is typically high in THC, with no CBD, the euphoric effect of this strain comes on quick. It creates an energizing head buzz with some subtle physical relaxation. Unlike most sativas, this strain keeps you grounded, while still providing that dreamy cerebral effect. As a result, it is known to help with stress, pain, anxiety and depression.
I enjoyed Sour Diesel before going to a concert and it was the perfect combination. All stress floated away, I felt social, yet somewhat introspective, and I enjoyed dancing as a creative outlet. I did not get a paranoid feeling, or anxiety like I can with heavier sativas. I really liked this strain and can see why it is legendary.
amazing post ! Thanks for sharing.
